1 more day to go!! What to pack for a race vacation!

Packing for Disney is one thing...packing for a race is another...and packing for a Run Disney race is a whole 'nuther level!

Obviously remember to bring clothes, socks, cameras, YELLOW PONCHOS (wink wink) and anything else you would like to have on your vacation. But for a race, you need to make sure all your race equipment is packed in your carry on luggage (we all know how American likes to lose our baggage!).

Remember:
Your race waivers
Shoes
Clothes (race outfit)
Socks
Hat/Visor
Sunglasses
Phone
Headphones
Armband
Go Pros (and added holding equipment)
Hydration belts
Gu (if it fits in your ziplock for the plane)
Body Glide
Bandaids
Road ID
Pre-race food (if it can pass TSA)
Duct Tape
Poncho or Trash Bag (to keep warm pre-race)

This is going to be so much fun! Sleep well tonight and we will see you soon!

2 days to go! Carb Loading!

We are just a few days out from our race and it's about time to start carb loading!

Mmmm...pasta!
Carb loading basically means making more than 70% of your food intake to be carbs. Kenyans eat on average 75-80% carbs in their normal diet...which makes them great for long and hard distance running! We want to make sure our bodies have enough glycogen to use on race day to make it to the finish line without hitting a wall!

If you want to get real scientific, you need to eat about 10g/kg of body weight. So I weigh 158 lbs. This is about 72 kg. This means I need to make sure in a day, I eat 720 g of carbs in one day for approximately three days.

Now this can get pretty crazy. If you know that carbs are four calories per gram of carbs, that's 2,880 calories of food! My normal calorie intake is 1,600. If I eat that much, I'm going to probably throw most of it up from feeling sick, which isn't good either. So what I focus on is making sure I hit that 70% mark in my food intake for carbs. I know I will go over my 1,600 and feel fuller, maybe a little sluggish. But I know my muscles will be primed with as many carbs as I can take.

The other pitfall is eating fat instead of eating carbs. You may think that pizza looks like tons of carbs. What you don't realize is most of that pizza is cheese, which is a fat. Fat doesn't burn the same way carbs do. So hit your carb count, but don't mistake fatty dishes for carbs!

Make sure you are also drinking lots of water! With the impending travel, stress levels (read cortisols) go up and you get dehydrated fast and don't recover from simple workouts as easy! Drink drink drink!

7 days to go! Vinylmations!

So, what are Vinylmations anyway?

Vinylmations are little figurines that Disney hypes as collectables! One of Walt Disney's most famous quotes was:

And this is what inspired the Vinylmations. They are all in the figure of Mickey Mouse, but are painted to look like different characters!

Princess Leia!

Disney Princesses!

Toy Story!

However, you buy them in packs that you can't see through! You don't know what figures you are buying until after the transaction! You know they might belong to a certain set, but don't know the exact figures! Then there is a whole system where you can trade to try to get the rarest of the figures!

Or, if they have special ones, like for the Disney race, you can just buy them as a single pack!

I would really like to get a 2014 RunDisney Mickey! Hopefully they will have enough of him at the Expo!

Yesterday's Trivia Question: In Beauty and the Beast, what feature was given to Belle only so she would stand out in the village and seem that she really did not fit in?
